Working in Curves: My career as a traditional wooden boat builder means that I have extensive experience working with complex shapes and spaces that most woodworkers have never encountered. I design and generate curved shapes and complex concave or convex surfaces at both large and small scales. This type of work requires specialized techniques and joinery that create a distinctive end product.
Mixed Materials: Mixed materials such as cable, metal, and composite need to work seamlessly together to accomplish functional/structural and aesthetic goals. I have extensive experience collaborating and problem-solving to bring these materials together in designs that are beautiful and strong.
Wood Selection: My woodworking is founded on a deep knowledge of the individual properties of each tree species as well as a profound respect for the forests from which the lumber must come. My approach to evaluating and choosing wood for any given project begins by paying attention to the unique properties of each species and the unique nature of each ”stick”.
In addition, I have access to salvaged and sustainably harvested local lumber as well as unique specimens.
